Abstract

This study presents a comparative analysis of HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank with the objective of evaluating their financial performance, operational efficiency, customer services, and overall market position in the Indian banking sector. Both banks play a significant role in the growth and development of India’s financial system and are recognized for their strong presence in retail banking, digital banking, and corporate financial services. The study examines key financial indicators such as profitability, liquidity, capital adequacy, asset quality, return on assets, return on equity, and non-performing assets to understand the comparative strengths and weaknesses of the two banks. The research is based on secondary data collected from annual reports, financial statements, official banking records, journals, and published reports. Ratio analysis and comparative financial analysis methods are used to evaluate the performance of both banks over a specific period. The study also highlights the impact of technological innovation, customer satisfaction, and digital banking initiatives on the competitive position of the banks. The findings of the study indicate that both HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank have demonstrated strong financial performance and sustainable growth, though differences exist in profitability, risk management, operational efficiency, and customer service quality. The study concludes that effective financial management, technological advancement, and customer-centric strategies play a crucial role in determining the success and competitiveness of banks in the modern banking environment.
