REAL-TIME FACE RECOGNITION AND ATTENDANCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Abstract

Attendance management is an important administrative activity in educational institutions, offices, organizations, and other workplaces. Traditional attendance systems commonly use manual registers, ID cards, RFID cards, or biometric devices to record attendance. These methods can require significant human effort, consume time, and may be affected by issues such as proxy attendance, misplaced cards, or manual entry errors. The Real-Time Face Recognition and Attendance Management System is proposed as an automated solution that uses computer vision and facial recognition technology to identify registered individuals and record their attendance. The proposed system uses a camera to capture live video frames and detect faces appearing within the camera's field of view. Image-processing techniques are used to preprocess the captured frames and improve the quality of facial images. A face recognition model extracts distinctive facial features and compares them with previously registered face data. When a sufficiently confident match is found, the system identifies the individual and records the corresponding attendance information. The attendance module maintains details such as the individual's name, identification number, date, time, and attendance status. The system can automatically prevent repeated attendance entries within the same session by checking previously recorded attendance. Attendance information can be stored in a database for future access, reporting, and analysis. Administrators or authorized users can view attendance records through an interactive dashboard. The system can significantly reduce the time required for attendance collection and minimize dependence on manual processes. It can be used in classrooms, offices, training centers, laboratories, and other controlled environments where individuals have been appropriately registered and consent and applicable privacy requirements are addressed. The system can also generate daily, weekly, or monthly attendance reports for authorized administrators.
