Mutual funds have emerged as an important investment avenue in the Indian financial market by providing investors with opportunities for diversification, professional fund management, liquidity, and relatively affordable market participation. The growth of the Indian mutual fund industry has been supported by increasing financial awareness, digital investment platforms, systematic investment plans (SIPs), and the expanding participation of retail investors. This study examines the development and functioning of the mutual fund industry in India, with particular emphasis on investment patterns, risk-return characteristics, investor preferences, fund performance, and factors influencing investment decisions. The study also evaluates the role of mutual funds in promoting financial inclusion and mobilizing household savings into productive investments. Secondary data from reliable financial reports, regulatory publications, academic studies, and industry sources can be used to analyse trends in assets under management, investor participation, and fund performance. The study is expected to provide insights into the opportunities and challenges faced by mutual fund investors and the broader Indian mutual fund industry. The findings can assist investors, financial institutions, policymakers, and researchers in understanding the changing dynamics of mutual fund investments in India.
